So as you can see things are still messed up. But we’re going to fix it.

I exhibited at Boston Comic Con a few weeks ago. Things went okay I guess. I sold a new mini book and go interviewed by the Secret Identity podcast. I’m super excited about that. I’ll post a link when it airs.

The week after that we moved into our new apartment. Both my jobs started up and it’s hard to get time off, so we moved it all in one day. (uuuuugggghhh…)

Oh and I don’t have internet yet, the WiFi at the library is terrible but I should still be able to keep the site going once I get some momentum.

Which brings me to my real topic. Sean Callahan and I were discussing projects the other day and how I’ve been struggling with the comic for so long. He then pointed out something that I should have already known.

I’m not interested in what I’m doing with the comic right now. I have some big plans for MMDH that I’ve been waiting to start on. I’ve really wanted to work on this new stuff but I always set it aside for other things. It’s an awful time to make such a big change to the comic, but the truth is my heart’s just not in it right now. I really want to work on my new idea.

I don’t want to get into it too much, but MMDH isn’t ending or anything so dramatic. I’m just changing things up. A relaunch or whatever buzz word I decide on later down the road.

And I won’t be going on hiatus again either. Sean and Mary agreed to write some comics for me to keep the updates on track while I prepare. (Not to big of a change now that I think of it.)

So we’ll have something up soon and I’ll keep you guys in the loop.

I’m preparing for the Boston comic con and it’s getting down to the wire so I’m really tied up. I’ve got something special planned but I don’t want to announce anything yet. You’ll probably hear from me again on Monday or Tuesday.

There is no one more disappointed in the hiatus and the missed updates than me. I thought this kind of unprofessional mess was behind me. I think the lack on information being shared is a much worse offense however.
Being ditched or ignored is something of a pet-peeve of mine. Everyone has to deal with flaky friends who skip out on you at the last minute or people giving you a ‘maybe’ to a question when the answer is ‘no’. In my case a ‘no’ is almost always preferable to a ‘maybe’. I really don’t mind if people are busy or just not interested. No one likes waiting until the last minute to get a confirmation and getting no response at all is even worse.
I find even in a professional setting people fail to return an email or a phone call. In this age communication is so god damn easy, is it really that hard to send an email saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to a simple question?
Let’s clear this up real quick. I’m not writing this to bitch about friends not checking there voice mails or to make anyone feel bad. Today this is about me.

I’m the asshole.

I’m doing something that pisses me off every time some one does it to me. I’m flaking out on my readers. (I know there are still some of you left.) Nearly every time I announce an update and miss it you guys don’t get so much as an “oops” out of me. You’re left wondering “what happened?” “is he quitting?” “is he just an lazy asshole?” Plenty of webcomics I read will sometimes post “I’m too busy, check back next week” and I’m okay with that. Sure I’m bummed there’s no comic but I can wait and I should be working anyway.

Anyway, let’s hop a bus out of Bummer-ville and talk about something else.

The Lockdown went well. Honestly we expected the turnout to be low (It was pretty last minute) but Sean and I would of counted it as a win if it was just us Locking down. It’s just something we wanted to do. That being said, Winona and Eric are super champs for showing up and hanging in for the long haul. We want to make this a regular event regardless of the crippling side-effects. (pictured above)
In real life Sean and I both don’t believe in and are terrified of ghosts. Just the Idea of them. Playful joking escalated to sleep deprived group hysteria. But in our defense, Sean’s house is fucking creepy.

Two quick things I want to mention; MMDH is going to be at Boston Comic Con this month and I now have Two jobs. I’ll touch on these more in the next update.

A few months ago, friend and buddy cop-like partner Sean Callahan threw a 24 hour cram session on his birthday which he called the “Creativity Jam” I like the idea so much that I stole it. I missed my birthday by a week but screw it, I’m doing it anyway.

For the Creativity Lockdown we’ve invited (and are still inviting) anyone with creative endeavors to work for 24 hours straight.  We have illustrators, cartoonist, musicians, writers and anyone else who needs to get some work done in a short amount of time, and could benefit from a group guilting them into finishing it. At the end of the lockdown creators will have a chance to present what they’ve accomplished and then fall asleep or something.

I’m using this to bring the comic back out of hiatus and build a bit of a buffer. MMDH will update promptly at the end of the Lockdown and update Monday that following week.

Things are weird right now and I’m kinda in a rut. I won’t get into the details but I want to let you know why I haven’t been around. I know it’s not a good time to announce that I’m taking a break seeing as how I’m already doing it but it’s idiotic to just drop off the radar like I did.

I’m not ready to start up the comic again. I’m going to take at least the rest of the month to work on other projects. Hopefully not any more than that. I have plenty of other art projects to keep busy and maybe changing gears like this will help me get back on track.

For everyone who keeps coming back thanks for sticking in there. I don’t get a lot of traffic but I do monitor it and I know that you guys are out there and your still checking up on me. I promise I’ll be back to making comics about Spider-man or whatever before you know it.

I announce my updates on MMDH’s facebook, twitter, and google+ and will be announce my return on these sites as well. You’ll be able to go about your business and still be the first to know of my triumphant return.

I’m finally back. And just in time for at least most of the new year. Between finals, working during the holidays and my laptop being broken for 2 weeks I have made zero comics. It’s time to get back in the game.

-2012 Resolutions-

Last year was the first time in a long time that I participated in new years resolutions. I decided that everything needed to revolve around the comic and the site. I made a list of everything that needed to be done for both of them and For the most part it worked. At least half the list was checked off. Some things I need to continue to do so they will always be there. I thought I’d share the list more openly this year.

1. Finish the site.

2. Find new ways to promote the webcomic and gain new readers.

3. Dig into advertising and start to collect money for the comic. 

4. Make a list of cons to go to for this year. (And prep for trips ahead of time)

5. Work on High Five Machine.

6. Keep updating!

You may notice High Five Machine on that list. (The podcast Sean and I share.) I’ve been bringing it up a lot the last few updates and we were hoping for it back in full production in time for the new year. We’ve been discussing what kind or content we want to produce through it but have yet to come to an acceptable conclusion. We really want to sit down and plan out what we want to change about HFM so we’re going to take our time and do it right.

Here’s hope hoping the new year tops the last one.

Not much to report. This little story arch will pay off soon so just hang in there. (VHS jokes. Wild right?)  Also,these comic names are getting long.  I wonder if that is going to keep going.

Sean and I skipped last week for the holidays (you my have seen my lame filler.) and unfortunately Sean is incredibly busy this week with moving and school and such so High Five Machine will take another week off. It’s a bummer I know, but it happens from time to time and it gives us a chance to prep something awesome for next time.
